2011 Donation Goal Update #2

2011 donation goal update

One of my financial goals for 2011 was to donate at least $1,000 worth of items. As of the last update, I’d only donated (not counting clothing and furniture etc.) $131.75. I’m not sure whether I’ll make it to $1,000 this year—maybe my goal was too much.

3 Purina One Smartblend 6oz dog food bags $1.00 (value?) each = $3.00
3 Plackers 90 pack dental flossers $1.99 each = $5.97
5 Benadryl itch relief sticks $4.49 each = $22.45
1 Arnicare pain relief gel = $6.99
1 John Frieda hairdye = $9.99
2 KY warming liquid 1 oz. $2.99 each = $5.98
8 boxes of Theraflu (6 packs) $3.79 each = $30.32
2 boxes of Vicks NyQuil $4.99 each = $9.98
6 boxes of Benadryl $4.49 each = $26.94
10 Motrin PM 20 ct. $2.99 each = $29.90
10 Right Guard men’s deodorants $3.29 each = $32.90
1 Old Spice men’s deodorant = $3.79
1 Hello Kitty 10 pack band-aid = $0.97
1 Visine for contacts = $4.99
1 Revita Lens solution = $5.99

* I used the actual prices before any coupons or rewards were earned to get an actual value. The actual price paid for all of these items after coupons, etc. was less than $10.00. It’s amazing sometimes the stuff you can get free with coupons; I usually try to grab a couple free and inexpensive items here and there to add to my donation bags. I know that I should be excited to be able to donate a few hundred dollars worth of stuff, but I can’t help feeling like I’m not doing enough. :-(

  1. I think it is admirable what you are doing. That is a lot of stuff to donate every month. Thanks for setting such a great example.

I try to donate to food hampers as well as a charity down the road from me that works will low income families, immigrants, refugees, and people from abused relationships.

    • Thanks Captain. :-) I just think about ALL the people who need stuff compared to what we’re able to give. I should be happy that I’m able to give anything at all.

  2. It is great you are doing this. I always wonder what people do with all the free stuff they get when I see the extreme couponing episodes. We don’t donate much in terms of items. I can never get this much stuff for $10. You should teach me :)

    • Honestly, I’ve been on a couponing holiday for months. I barely use them anymore except for stuff I’m going to get anyways or for a few things to add into my donation bags. It requires more of my time than I’m willing to give (the extremeness of couponing) but I’d like to do a bit more than I am now.
