Blog Happenings: Features, Missing Stuff and Whatnot

(Caution: not really related to personal finance)

my moneyI wasn’t sure if you all have noticed it yet, but I’ve been doing a little work around here. I’ve been adding and removing stuff to make it easier to find things and nicer to look at. One of the new additions is the page up top My Money. This is an easier way to access spending reviews, our weekly spending, our Net Worth updates and My Accounts.

My Accounts is a new feature that actually lets you peek into our savings accounts—without actually giving you access to them. I’m going to be updating this each time we make deposits or withdrawals from our savings accounts. I thought it might be interesting since we don’t usually save large amounts at once, we’re more into doing what we can and watching it grow over time.

I also removed the Weekly Spending page (and the Net Worth page) from the menu up top, but you can still view our Where Did The Dough Go? posts; you can access them by clicking on the My Money page and then on the link to Weekly Spending. I know this isn’t very convenient but it keeps things organized and less cluttered.

I’ve also been considering adding our Roth IRA to the My Accounts section and sharing that account information too, so let me know if that’s something you’re interested in. We’re not actually doing anything with the Roth IRA yet, I’m pretty sure I need to get our balance to $1,000 first.

I finally got rid of that annoying captcha thing, you know, that stupid box with the crazy letters and/or numbers that you have to fill out before you can leave a comment. Now, all you have to do is click a little box to confirm you aren’t a spammer—so much easier. Sorry it took me so long to ditch the captcha. I really appreciate you all for still hanging around and leaving me comments anyways. :-) If you have a blog and want to ditch the evil captcha for your comments, you might want to look into the Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin, it’s so much easier. So far it’s going great for me.

What else? Oh, yes…comments. You might have noticed that I’m not responding to comments as often as usual. I’m still getting to them (I haven’t turned to the Dark Side or anything), just not like 5 times a day anymore. I am currently in the process of setting up another blog, so I’ve been spreading things out a bit more to be able to work on both sites. You probably haven’t even noticed this, I just wanted to let you know in case you did.

As usual, if I’m driving you nuts with all the moving stuff around, feel free to email me and complain about it—I won’t hold it against you.

  1. Looks great! I’ve revamping my NAV bar too, but it is taking so long.
I’m taking a vacation from work to work on my blog next month. We should meet up if possible.

    • Thanks Joe. :-) It’s crazy how long some of the ‘behind the scenes’ work can take, but your blog has come a long way in the last month or so. I’d love to meet up, it’s cool that I live near another PF blogger.

I’m just not sure when I’ll get a chance, things are going to be really busy for the next month or two. I’m trying to get my new blog ready for the big reveal, but the new one is every day posting. I’m hoping to get ahead so I can ease into the craziness.
