How to Gamble Responsibly

Have you ever gambled before? At times, it can be pretty addicting, especially if you are used to winning and Lady Luck doesn’t seem to be at your side on a particular night. To be honest, gambling can be very dangerous for some. If you have a habit of over-spending when wagering money, then you might just want to steer clear of the tables for a while. If, however, you have control over your gambling, then it can be a very enjoyable past-time.

So how can one learn to gamble responsibly? A couple of points come to mind:

1)      Play only low-stakes games – I once knew a man that only played in the high rollers area. He loved being treated like a big shot and got waited on all night long. Sometimes he won big, but he also lost big as well. For me, I would use gambling purely as a source of entertainment, which means avoiding the high stakes area of the casino. You can still enjoy a game of poker just as much when there is a low blind involved. Trust me.

2)      Limit Your Spending – Know exactly how much money you are going to spend at any given time. For me, this amount would be $50 or something. Not too big, but big enough to make a night out of it (at the low stakes tables anyway). Just be sure to stick to your guns about your limit. If you spend it, you’re done. End of story.

3)      Set a High Winnings Limit to Leave With Money – Have you ever met someone that came back from Vegas saying, “I wish I would have stopped when…” I hear it all the time. Many times gamblers have more money than when they first walked through the doors, but if they don’t stop playing, then they will likely lose it all. If you walk in with $50 and get to over $100, put $50 away and stop gambling with it. That way you can ensure that you’ll walk out with at least as much as you walked in with. Get up another $100? Put away another $50. This is a great way to regulate your winnings and leave with some cash.

The bottom line is, gambling can be fun, but it should be done responsibly. Keep a level head and enjoy the games. Who knows, you might even strike it rich!

How to Gamble Responsibly — 3 Comments

  1. The ONLY way to gamble is to play Bingo: For just one set fee (usually $30)you get your package, 12 games and a Coverall sheet, and sometimes a raffle ticket 50/50 is included. As long as you avoid the pull tab games, you’re out only $30,if you don’t win any games… not including what you’ll spend at the snack bar.

  2. I do enjoy some gambling. I only play the games with high odds or low losses (Pai Gow, video poker, bingo), and we of course only use our fun money (money set aside simply for entertainment). My husband and I also take home what we win from each set play. For example, we run through $20 at a video poker machine playing $1.25 per hand. That means we cash out after 16 hands whether we won or lost…we always end up taking home something this way.

  3. I am not into gambling and I think it’s a waste of time and money. Actually, you’re not gaining from it. You may win couple of times but usually, the number of times you lost outnumbered the number of times you win. This is just my opinion and I think this is the reality about gambling. :)
