Insurance Overview

In the past, insurance agents have been regarded as glorified salespeople – interested in making a buck at the expense of their clients. Contrary to popular beliefs, though, most insurance agents are consummate professionals. These individuals, well-trained in personal finance as well as the ramifications of the products they sell, should be considered members of a helping profession devoted to the good of their clients.

Ideally, unless you move to a different city, your insurance agent will provide services to better the financial condition of you and your family as both grow and mature. An insurance agent helps you protect yourself from the vagaries of life that inevitably crop up. Different types of insurance protect you in different ways, such as:

Automobile insurance – required by law, but necessary to protect you in the event that you are deemed legally responsible for injury to others or their property as you use your car. To quote an old saying by insurance agents: “No one intends to have an accident! They happen in spite of the best intentions.”

Home insurance – necessary to protect your home from the various calamities that weather, accidents, and other individuals wreak upon your property. Home policies also provide liability insurance – just in case your dog bites someone, a person slips on an icy sidewalk or Great-Aunt Mattie breaks her hip while going down a wobbly step.

Life insurance – many kinds exist to provide financial security for your family if you are no longer there, allows you to invest premium money and make it a resource for retirement.

Disability insurance – to protect you and your family if you are unable to work for an extended time. Sure, Social Security disability exists, but applying for it and receiving it takes quite a while.

Business insurance – for the many types of businesses that individuals begin in the United States.

Flood and earthquake insurance – as needed and available in your area.

A professional insurance agent will guide you concerning types of insurance and help you assess your needs. For more information, consult an agent. Make sure that you can work with your agent, feel comfortable with him or her, and consult freely about your life and needs.
