Ways I Save #2

I save money every month, by dyeing my hair at home. My hair grows pretty fast so I have to have it dyed once a month, unless I want my icky roots showing. To get my hair done at the salon, it costs $40.00 plus a $5.00 tip. So, $45.00 a month times 12 months would be $540.00 a year. That’s a nice chunk of change.

Now I can either do this myself or get a friend or family member (not my kid) to help out. The most common price for Loreal Feria, which is my current dye of choice is $9.99. I have seen it as high as $12.99 as well. So, if I didn’t use any coupon/specials/deals to purchase my hair dye, it would be $9.99 a month times 12 months for a total of $119.88. So by going this route opposed to the salon, it can save $420.12.

But that’s not exactly what I do. I keep an eye out for coupons for my hair-dye, whether they are in the Sunday coupon inserts or found online. Then, I keep an eye on the sales until I can get it for $4.99 or less. When I buy it, I usually purchase 4 boxes at a time, this way I can wait until another good deal comes around and not have to pay full price. Assuming that I get all my hair-dye for $4.99 a box (which is the highest price I will pay), that equals out to $59.88 a year.

So I save $480.12 a year by dyeing my hair @ home and using coupons, specials and/or deals to purchase my dye.

If you are thinking “Who would dye my hair for free?” you aren’t alone. You shouldn’t have to pay a friend/family member to do it, there are always other ways. You can always barter (exchanging services/goods with others), such as dyeing their hair for them to save them money too, babysit their kids, do an errand or favor for them.

There are so many things you could do if they aren’t into helping you out for free. Maybe you could make them lunch afterward, walk their dog, make them something special (craft or food-wise); you just have to get a little creative.

Wouldn’t it be worth saving all that money? It is for me. :-)

Do you dye your hair at home?
If so, how much does it save you?
