Notes: Wow, this pretend mortgage and bills idea is going quite well. I’m really excited about how much we were able to save so far this paycheck…but I’m also excited about something else.
I got new shoes! Yay for new shoes. Yes, I know I sound like a typical chick, but it’s not like that. The other day, I bought a brand-new pair of Airwalks (skate shoes).
I haven’t purchased a pair of shoes for myself in over 9 years, no $hit. I’m more of a sneakers kinda chick, though I do have shoes for other purposes. You know, special occasions and times you just have to dress up. Overall though, I pretty much wear sneakers 99.5% of the time.
None of the other shoes were purchased by me though, remember I mentioned my mom had a shopping addiction? Every time she’s on a shoe rampage and I’m near, my closet becomes collateral damage. Luckily, I’ve been able to convince her that I won’t wear them and will just end up donating them.
Oh, back to my new Airwalks. They were on sale for $5 off, not much but I would have bought them anyway, plus I had a coupon for $10 off. My recently departed shoes were Vans and lived a long, durable and respectable life—but it was time for new shoes.
On another note, I had to pay US Bank to get a copy of one of my savings account statements because I lost 1 of them and needed it for our home loan. The lady never asked if I wanted one from checking or savings and just gave me our checking statement.
I didn’t realize that until after the bank was already closed. So I called the next morning and they said that I wouldn’t be able to get the money back, but that she could email us the correct statement for another $6.00. Wtf?
I said fine because I needed it anyway, but you better believe I’m going to bring in the checking statement and have our account credited. I know it was my fault for not paying attention, but it was her fault too—it is her job. Shouldn’t I be able to get our money back?
How did your budgeting/spending go this week?
We did okay this week except that I stocked up at the grocery store a little bit too much. For the rest of the month, our grocery budget will be tight…..but we have a lot of peanut butter now. =)

Peanut butter can be fairly expensive sometimes, when I stock up on it, my grocery bill gets kinda high too. At least you’re rolling in PB.

I don’t know if its new because I usually just read from my google reader feed, but I’m loving your banner.
It’s new, I got it right before my 2nd Blogiversary (Aug 7) to celebrate. I’m glad you like it, Cat.

I can’t believe they charged you for a savings statement. Can’t you print one online? Congrats on your new shoes. You gotta have good shoes!

Our checking account was signed up for estatements, but I had forgotten to do the same with the savings account. I did it the other day, but I only get access to them online going forward.

How many times do I have to say cigs…??? It’s all out of bloggers love.
Jai, here’s your comments (including this one) from my recent weekly spending posts:
#67 How many times do I have to say cigs…??? It’s all out of bloggers love.
#65 It’s the cigs… AHHHHH…
#62 Damn cigs…
#61 I stopped at cigs. I am sorry.
Complaining about what we spend our money on isn’t going to change things. Could you please contribute something other to the conversation that childish comments?

I’ll join Jai and get on your case about the cigarettes too 😉 tsk tsk
That is pricey to get a savings account statement printed. I’m pretty sure my bank wouldn’t charge such a high fee. Since I do paperless bills I actually have access to them all online. So if I do need any printed it only costs me however much of my printer ink I use.

Yeah, you might not want to join Jai.
I wish I would have remembered to sign up for the online statements (for our savings too) before I needed them.
I’m still getting my money back for the extra one, it would be ridiculous otherwise.

Love the “no spend days.” I wrote about the spending fast last week. Great to see someone with the same idea.

I ended up spending too much on rent (again). I spent $150 on plants last week ($250 left to spend) – you see I’m trying to create fresh oxygen in my pad. Bought 5 snake plants, 2 pothos (all large plants) Looking to purchase 6 palm varieties and about 5 more snake plants and 2 more pothos. $150 or so went on food, not including restaurant. Sent another $300 into savings acc. Now I’m just counting the pennies.. yikes.

At least you’re spending your money on something that is important to you. Hopefully things will be better financially for you next week.

I think it’s weird that they charge you for a statement at all. And <3 skater shoes. They're so freaking comfy.

They really are, I love them.
I think it’s dumb they charge $6 to just print something out. That’s how they make their money.

The one thing that I am taking away from your recent house buying series and this new aspect in your budget is that it is a great way to force savings. It’s like putting your saving skills in hyper-drive. Keep up the great work.

Yeah, it is kinda like that. Hopefully I can keep it up and save a ton of money—because we’re certainly going to need it.

This is only for 1 week for 2 1/2 people. I don’t really do much aside from buying things when they’re on sale, using coupons and not really cooking actual meals.
