How to Handle an Emergency When on Vacation

Vacations are supposed to be a fun time for you and your family. However, an emergency can come up at any time, even when you are on vacation. Therefore, today we are discussing how to handle and emergency when on vacation so you can handle the unexpected easily.

Passport Emergencies (Have Access to Money)

Losing or having your passport stolen can cause a lot of stress. In the event that this happens to you, the first thing you want to do is contact the local embassy so you can get an emergency passport. You will have to have some items available such as the police report and $100. Since you never know what may happen on vacation we suggest having a passport emergency kit available, which will include all of the things you will need in the event that you have to apply for an emergency passport with the embassy.

Missed Flights (Remain Calm)

This is one of the most common emergencies, which people experience while on vacation. If this happens to you, the first thing to do is to remain calm. Do not become frustrated with the airline staff. It is not their fault that you missed your flight regardless of what incident occurred for it to happen. Instead, ask the airline staff when another flight is available for you and then wait it out. In the event that there are not upcoming flights, book a hotel. Again, this is when having access to extra money is going to come into play too. Additionally, whenever you have to take a flight leave extra early to make sure that you are prepared for traffic or any other unexpected things that could occur on the way to the airport.

Illness (Keep Medical Information Readily Available)

Illness can happen on vacation too. To make sure that you are prepared always have your medication lists available in addition to insurance information, medication, and your doctors contact information. This way if you do get sick while away from your local area, things can be taken care of quickly, and you do not have to work yourself up into a panic.

Cash Emergencies

There are times when you might be facing money issues while traveling. Whether you lost your wallet, purse or were robbed you need to get cash. Often times you can get your credit card companies to issue new cards the same day. The problem is if someone found them or stole them they can be charging up your limit already. The next best option is to apply for a same day personal loan at place, even if you have bad credit.  The last option is to get a friend or family member to send you cash western union or a similar service.

Bottom Line

As long as you have access to additional money, your medical information available, and stay calm, you should be able to tackle any vacation emergency that is thrown your way. Regardless, of how much planning and how careful you are vacation emergencies do happen. Hopefully, our tips will have you prepared.
