Stubborn Puppy & 2 Scenarios to Save

It seems like everyday Roxy (my adorable baby puppy) finds more and more ways to cost me money. Don’t get me wrong, I love her and she’s worth every penny, but it’s crazy sometimes. Well, I guess she’s not really a baby puppy anymore, she’s actually turned 1 this month—so you’d think she’d be potty trained by now. Nope! Grrrrr!

People I know are all telling me to put her nose in it and spank her while the PetSmart people tell me to ignore it. Am I really suppossed to be able to ignore her p*ssing on my carpet and pooping everywhere? I understand in a sense that ignoring it (not giving positive nor negative attention) can be good when you just pick her up and run outside, but there are 2 big issues with that.

Issue #1 she is scared to death of relieving herself in the grass. She’s totally fine running in it and eating it, but that’s where she draws the line. So we are still trying to teach her to go outside with those puppy pads.

Issue #2 I can’t be watching her every second of every day and I can’t keep her locked up in her cage every time I leave the room. She’s sneaky, very sneaky and will wait until I’m in the back doing something. She knows that it’s wrong because when I actually find (which is pretty rare) a spot where she peed, she gets all shameful and looks away really funny. I should have just crate-trained her when we got her. :-(

So, now I need to buy a carpet cleaner for our apartment, because it’s starting to get gross. I’ve been looking at the small compact ones (since we haven’t anywhere to store a standard-size one) and think I found the one I want, but how to save on it? Here’s my options:

The Bissel Little Green Pro-heat compact carpet cleaner.

If I were to purchase at Best Buy

Price: $99.99
Shipping: $10.50 or Free if I pick it up at a Best Buy store that has it in stock
Total Price: $99.99 to $110.49

Best Buy Rewards I can use: $40.00

Final Price: $59.99 to $70.49

Other Stuff: I would be earning reward points on the amount I actually pay with my Best Buy Reward Zone MasterCard which would also include bonus points for making the purchase at Best Buy. Also, if I buy it online, I can earn cash-back from online cash-back shopping sites but the most I’d earn would be a couple of bucks.
If I were to purchase at Amazon.com

Price: $99.99
Shipping: Free on orders over $25.00
Total Price: $99.99

Amazon Gift Certificates I have banked: $63.40

Final Price: $36.59

Other Stuff: No cash-back shopping opportunities, which is okay really. I have been saving my Swagbucks up for the $50 PayPal cash, which I’m finally nearing enough for the $25 one—instead I could cash out for some Amazon e-gift cards. That would bring my balance down to almost nothing, and I could get more for my points if I get the $5 Amazon e-gift cards instead of a larger one (450 Swagbucks for a $5 one is the best deal).

I’m kinda leaning toward the Amazon route so I don’t have to spend much OOP (out of pocket). Just thought I’d show you all how I think when making purchases, maybe it’ll help somebody one day.

What do you think?

  1. I can’t even begin to believe that little Roxie would ever go p-p on the carpet…lol maybe your roof is leaking…lol

    • @Paul- Don’t let that cute face trick you—she’s absolutely maniacal (I think that’s how you spell it?). I would actually be happy if the roof leaking was the case, since we live in an apartment it wouldn’t cost us anything. :-)
