What Is a Budget?

It’s amazing how frightened and nervous some people become when they hear the word “budget“. For me, “budget” used to mean: Evil constriction of spending, pain, sadness and suffering. Now, it’s not so bad and can even be a little fun if you choose it to be so.

How does the the dictionary define ‘budget‘?

Merriam-Webster Dictionary
b : a plan for the coordination of resources and expenditures
c : the amount of money that is available for, required for, or assigned to a particular purpose

What is a “budget” to me?

A “budget” is a plan for our money. It makes sure our money goes to the right places and helps us make sure we aren’t wasting it, so that we can achieve our financial goals in life. I think that “budget” can mean something different to everybody, it just depends on: your experiences, your goals, how your budget is set up and how it makes you feel. Everyone has a different situation and no budget will work for everybody. You just have to adjust it until it works for you.

  1. Just like you, my budget is a plan for my money. It allows me to think about what is most important to me, and to get those important things.

  2. Right now in this current economic situation, it can almost be life-saving to make a budget and stick to it. By knowing where your money is going can be ‘totally eye-opening’. Everywhere you look; poeple are being laid-off from jobs or there is the fear of being laid off. Fear is a terrible way to go thru life; physically, mentally, and emotionally. In these times there can be only one way to live and that is : PROACTIVE !

    • Good points Paul. Hopefully some good will come out of all this crap, like people paying more attention to their money. A lot of people don’t really care until something huge happens financially and they get that kick in the a$$ they needed.
