Comcast: After the Promotional Period

About 2 or 3 years ago, we decided to stop paying for cable every month. It was hard because we really liked to watch TV, but we lived. We signed up with Netflix and made due with the movies they shipped us and the Watch Instantly feature on our computers and then though our blu-ray player. It was definitely a lot cheaper than cable, and gave us more time to focus on other things than just TV.

Fast forward- last year, we started an Internet only promotion with Comcast. The promotion was for 1 year and included a Power-Boost, which makes your Internet even faster, for $34.99 a month.

Fast forward- last week, I went online to pay our Internet bill with Comcast. Our bill was much higher, I forgot about the 1 year price. It went from $34.99 a month to $76.95 a month, which was more than double what we had been paying. I love the Internet and all, but that was just too much.

So, what did I do? I called Comcast and let them know that we couldn’t afford to pay that much. The man was very nice and found us another promotional package. There was no way that we would be able to get the same price for the Internet, so he dropped off our Power-Boost ($10 a month) and added the extremely basic cable package.

So now, our bill will be $49.00 a month instead of $76.95 and we get a few channels. The time I spent on the phone to do all this was between 10-15 minutes, and over the next 6 months, it will save us $167.70.

I will need to call in when our 6 month promotional pricing ends and see what can be done, but I am really happy that we were able to keep the Internet and gain TV with Comcast.

Now we just need to buy a coaxial splitter and we can watch TV, and I can save money on that too. :-)

Many companies will usually try to work with you if you give it a try.

Comcast: After the Promotional Period — 1 Comment

  1. I actually just cancelled my Comcast cable tv earlier this year. The price increases were just too much for me. Best decision I ever made. There is so much stuff on Netflix and Hulu. I tried to get a promotion for internet since I still have that with Comcast, but no dice. I ended up downgrading service tot he 6mpbs package. That’s all Netflix needs for HD streaming so I’m set.
