What is Manilla & Why Should You Try It?

You might already know that I’m a big fan of free financial resources, so it shouldn’t surprise you that I’ve found another one.  I had seen stuff all over the web and other blogs about Manilla, but I was hesitant. It’s not a big deal; I’m usually hesitant, suspicious and paranoid about all free stuff. After doing a ton bit of research, I decided to give it a go. I’m glad I did, because I love it so far.

What is Manilla?

Manilla is a free (yes, that’s right…100% free) web based service to make our financial lives more organized and easier to manage. With one password, I am now able to get an overview of all of my accounts that I set-up with Manilla in one place. I don’t have to log-in to each and every one with various user names and passwords, which can get really annoying. I can see current balances, due dates and other reminders in an easy to use, clean interface. It took me less than 2 minutes to open a free account with Manilla, and only a few more to get my accounts set-up.

What accounts can you track with Manilla?

  • checking accounts
  • savings accounts
  • retirement accounts
  • utility accounts
  • magazine subscriptions
  • daily deals
  • mortgages
  • cell phone
  • reward programs
  • cable and Internet services
  • credit cards
  • store credit cards
  • investment accounts
  • and more…

Manilla automatically updates all your information so that everything is up to date. You can set-up email or text reminders to help avoid late fees…or you can skip the reminders all together. Manilla uses the same level security as online banks use, so you know that your information is secure. That’s usually something I worry about, especially with all the free stuff out there these days.

Another cool thing I like about Manilla is that they store (free again) your statements and bills for you, as many as you want, for as long as you want. This is really helpful for people (like me) who want to eliminate paper waste and go paperless. With Manilla, you don’t even have to store these documents on your hard drive; they’re safely stored online for you and easy to access. Not all of my accounts were available to set-up right now (most were), so I just suggested they include them.

Why You Should Try Manilla

  • Hello—it’s FREE!
  • Bank-level security
  • Remembering 1 password is much easier
  • More organized finances
  • Eliminate paper and hard drive waste with unlimited storage
  • It can help you avoid late payment fees
  • See all your accounts in 1 place
  • Saves time
  • Very simple to use
  • New companies added often (as users request them)
  • Apps available for on the go access via Android and iPhone

Have you tried Manilla yet?

  1. Going to check this out. I really would like better password organization.

    • It’s so much nicer to be able to log in with 1 password to see all the accounts. I have so many passwords I have to keep straight and a really bad memory. :-)

    • I’m still getting Mint set-up, so I can’t really give a good comparison right now. Maybe later on, though. :-)

  2. I have gotten a lot of emails through my points about Manilla. It sounded great, but like you, I am usually hesitant about free stuff. I would definitely like only having to use one password though. That would be awesome.

    • It’s really nice to not have to log in everywhere now. :-) I don’t think I got one of those offers from MyPoints, I would have loved to have earned some points for signing up. Either way, I’m happy I gave it a shot.
