South Park, Slippers and a Very Naughty Puppy

The guilty party

At the end of the day, after many hours of work, I love to just lie down on the couch and veg. Sometimes I might watch a movie or a TV show, most of which are decided by Netflix’s watch instantly queue, since we don’t really have cable.

It’s a great way to save money every month, until they decided to raise their prices again. Usually there’s something interesting to choose from, so it’s not too bad. Luckily, there always seems to be American Dad, South Park and Family Guy episodes to choose from.

On the particular night in question, I was watching some episodes (about 3) from season 12 of South Park and was totally consumed. I never even saw it happen. I got up to do something and began to slide my feet into my slippers (which I wear because our puppy has some kind of house-training learning disability and is not to be trusted) when I noticed something strange.

My right foot was wet! Roxy peed (a lot) in my slipper…on purpose. I was so p*ssed, I couldn’t believe she did that. How did I not notice this happening? My slippers were two feet away from me at most.

She did it on purpose and she knew it was wrong; she always does when she goes in the house. Why in the world she did it, I haven’t a clue. Now I have to go buy new slippers (another expense) because these would just fall apart in the washing machine. Grrrrr! I am totally categorizing this under “puppy expenses” when I find a new pair.

Within the last couple of weeks I shelled out $62.00 to get her groomed, which is just nuts, and in the next couple of weeks she needs to get her shots again. Puppies are expensive little creatures. Yeah, I know everybody told me that, it just doesn’t seem to register until you really know all the possible expenses they’ll bring. Our puppy expenses over the last year (we got her last August):

Buying the puppy- $649.19
Puppy Shot Package (1st year) at Vet- $421.19
Pet Deposit (no way in h*ll we’re seeing this again) 60% non-refundable- $500.00
Getting her fixed- $255.78
Vet visit when she might have eaten a Rx pill- $78.49
Grooming (stuff for at home and taking her in)- $168.92
Dog food and treats- $133.69
Other Stuff (dog bed, puppy pads, leash and harness, toys etc.)- $225.69

Year 1 Puppy Expenses $2,432.95

That’s the stuff that I’ve managed to keep track of, who knows how much else there was. Also, keep in mind that I did use coupons when I could, that saved us about $120.00 on dog food and treats and about $200.00 or so on other things.

How much do your pets cost you?

  1. adding up expenses at whatever you’re doing can be scary because you really don’t want to know haha but it’s very important to be on track

  2. I call one of my dogs the Six Million Dollar Beagle. Two years ago, he had spinal surgery ($6500) and then a year later, ACL repair ($2500). This month, he had $1300 worth of tests. I was worried he had cancer, but no, he’s just a lumpy old dog. He’s worth every penny, though. Glad my two other dogs are healthy!

  3. @Aaronhung@- So true. :-)
@harriet- That’s an expensive dog. They are totally worth it, but can be crazy expensive. I think I’ve spent more on the dog than our kid this last year.

    • lol. My mom had gotten 2 maltese puppies at the same time too (adorable puppies). They kept each other busy, but they had to get rid of them because of all the constant traveling. I think I was more upset about it then my mom was.
